IBIS RIPLEY 2019

I bought a 2019 Ibis Ripley about a year and a half ago. Bought it as a demo from bike hub. Bike was like new it was all stock bike. I changed the tires went with a maxxis ardent 2.4 on front and Schwalbe nobby nic 2.35 on rear. This is my personal review and thoughts about this bike. I hope this gives you some insight about this bike and the way it performs.

  • TIRES: The schwalbe nobby nics are good tires they did a good job. The width of the tires made for a really stable and planted feel. They did well for me in the mud. They did not roll as well as I wanted and the mud collected around the rear so I went with a size smaller.
  • The rear I went with a nobby nic 2.35. On the front I went with a maxxis ardent 2.4 it is a good rolling tire because I ride asphalt some to get to the trails. But of course if you ride where their is a lot of rocks I would stay with the bigger tires.
  • FRONT FORK: The fork did good on smaller stuff but on bigger stuff it felt choppy or kinda harsh. But overall it did its job not a bad fork you are just going to feel it more on bigger hits.
  • SHOCK: I really liked the shock it performed really well. The shock did good on soaking up the small stuff it was a little harsher on the bigger hits but that has a lot to do with the way the suspension is set up. But overall I liked the shock.
  • DRIVETRAIN: GX EAGLE 1×12 this is one of my favorites I have had a few of these and all of them have been really good. They are very reliable and durable drive trains. The ones I have had work flawlessly and they shift well.
  • BRAKES: SHIMANO DEORE 6000 two piston I personally like these brakes. I have had a few bikes with these brakes on them. They modulate good and are not to grabby when you pull hard. They are very reliable and durable brakes and they stop you reasonably well.
  • THE RIDE
  • DESCENDING: I thought that this bike handled good on the descents. But it is a nervous bike when you get going fast. The 130mm forks made for a nervous feel when you start hitting the ruff stuff. The rear seemed to do really good. When I saw a rough spot I would slow down a little and it did good for me.
  • FLOW TRAILS: This has to be one of the sweet spots of this bike. The crisp handling and the nimble feel that this bike has makes every bump a chance to jump. Really fun on flow trails.
  • SINGLE TRACK: This bike does good on single track. The bike handles good on single track especially when their is a lot of pedaling. The pedaling platform gets you where you need to go and it really does good on switchbacks while on descends with a lot of ruts this bike can get nervous at times.
  • CLIMBING: This bike is known for its climbing ability. It did not disappoint me it really shines on the climbs. This bike really climbs great. The pedaling platform is really efficient every push of the pedal moves you forward even on the steep climbs. This bike will get you where you need to go efficiently.
  • CONCLUSION
  • The 2019 IBIS RIPLEY is a really good bike overall. All bikes have their spots where they could be improved. The forks seem to me to be a little stiff on the bigger bumps and ruts but with only 130mm of travel you can expect that.
  • Overall it was still manageable not a big deal but worth mentioning. This whole bike is set up stiff but that also gives it the great pedaling platform that it has. This bike has an agile and aggressive feel to it handling is great.
  • This is one of the most efficient pedaling bikes I have had. I would recommend this bike to someone who is going to do a lot of pedaling or climbing. This bike is really good for a variety of terrains and all day rides. Also check out the video review below. DAVE
